Have a question? Need assistance?
The staff at the Troup County Archives is happy to assist students, researchers, and patrons.
Digital Collections
Troup County Archives holds extensive digital collections that are constantly growing.
Collections include photographs, oral histories, and marriage records. Troup County Archives is proud to partner with CONTENTdm to host our digital collections.
While finding aids may be included on CONTENTdm, this does not indicate the entire collection is digital. Many of our collections must be viewed in person at our Taylor Research Library. Appointments may be made for researchers unable to visit our physical location to view portions or all of collections.
Virtual Research Requests
To request research be conducted by a staff member, please contact us. State the question and any information that is already known. The more information you provide, the better our staff may answered the question. TCA staff answers research requests in the order they are received and makes every effort to respond to all requests within five business days.
On-site Research Appointments
The Archives holds over five hundred manuscript collections. Finding aids and indexes are available to assist researchers. In addition to historical collections, extensive files of the Troup County Government, the City of LaGrange Government, Hogansville City Government, and the Troup County School System are held at the Archives. The collection of pre-1900 Troup County court records is especially thorough. Newspapers from those first printed in the county have been microfilmed, digitized, and indexed. Over 30,000 photographs, dating from the 1850s, are held within the collections and can be accessed online or in the library. Vertical files have been compiled with concentrations from biographies to significant events. Family files, containing copied genealogical information on various families have been created from genealogists’ donated content.
Additionally, the library holds a myriad of books on genealogical resources, preservation, and local history concentrations. While these volumes do not circulate outside the Archives, photocopies of the desired material can be made.
Researchers are encouraged to use handheld cameras or portable scanners to capture images of original documents and books for later reference. All photography must be done in accordance with the library’s photography guidelines and staff instructions. A photocopier is available for hard copies and digital reproductions to be made for a nominal fee.
While drop-in research is available, it is recommended that patrons work with an archivist. To ensure an archivist is available, we suggest scheduling an appointment.
