I Must Sing chronicles the life and works of Benson who had been largely forgotten by local historians and students of this region’s literature. Benson, using a typewriter she called Baby, became an accomplished writer of short stories, plays and poetry. Between 1922 and her death in 1949, she served as librarian of LaGrange College.
