The Troup County Archives is the official repository for the Troup County government, the City of LaGrange government, the City of Hogansville government, and the Troup County School System. Records are transferred by a schedule determined by state regulation, local government departments, and Archives’ staff.
Below are some of the most frequently requested record types. Click on each one to read more.
RESPONSE TIMES
Most government records requests made of the Archives are subject to the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. §50-18-70 et seq.) and as such, will receive a response within three business days. Archives records staff will then communicate the length of time the request will take to fulfill.
VERIFICATION OF DESTRUCTION LETTERS
The Troup County Archives works with the local governments to comply with Local Government Record Retention Schedules and the Official Judicial Branch Court Records Retention Schedules as set forth by the State of Georgia and the Supreme Court and Judicial Council of Georgia. If a record is requested that has already been legally destroyed in accordance with the retention schedules, a letter may be written verifying the destruction of that record.
Troup County Archives’ Fees
The state of Georgia authorizes that an institution (Troup County Archives) may require a fee for the work and cost of locating an open records request. Troup County Archive’s fee is determined by O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71 (c), with no charge for the first fifteen minutes of work performed for the records request.
