Legacy Museum on Main offers an award-winning exhibition on the history of West Georgia from its earliest inhabitants, the Woodland and Creek American Indian Tribes, through modern times.
Take a stroll with the all-female Nancy Harts Militia, see the world’s oldest cotton bale, learn about World War II’s effect on the local population, and hear history through the voices of those who experienced it firsthand.
Then walk across a replica Horace King covered bridge to see additional changing galleries that highlight in more detail the events, people, and cultures of the area.
Legacy Museum’s “Wheels of Change” permanent exhibit is designed to engage everyone from curious toddlers to octogenarian history buffs. Visitors that enjoy tactile interaction will be equally interested as those who appreciate reading every word of detailed local history. Spend a half hour or all morning. Videos and seats are available for those that finish quicker than their companions and staff is always available to answer questions or offer additional anecdotes.
Legacy Museum on Main is free of charge because of the generosity of Callaway Found, Inc. and local citizens’ contributions.
Legacy Museum on Main also offers field trips for school groups to senior adult groups. Click here for more information about field trips.
